Every Life is a Gift

Just a few quick thoughts.  As the reports of Osama Bin Laden's death have covered the news my feelings about the situation have been very mixed.  I hate everything that terrorism is, as well as any violence and fighting in the world but the death of someone should never be celebrated.  I understand that Americans have been searching for some sort of justice after 9/11 but the way that people celebrated was embarrassing.  Have we lost all respect for the sanctity of life?

And people might say that Bin Laden did not respect this gift that was given to other people but this is was America's chance to be the bigger person.  The actions of other people do not need to dictate our actions.  This is our chance to show that we are a nation that truly wants peace and honors life.

Bishop Hanson said that this should be a time of solemn remembrance.  It is a time to remember the lives of those who have died on both sides as well as those who continue to fight.  It is not a time to joyously celebrate the death of an enemy.  If we are not willing to stop the cycle of revenge then who will?  If so many people can come together because of this one death then why can we not come together for the millions who continue to suffer from war, violence, poverty, etc?
